The Vision Behind Epilogue
Meet our Founder, Jessica Sumner
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you are here!
I started Epilogue after I noticed that there was a lack of comprehensive support for seniors and their families in the current individualized approach. After working in a specialized doctor's office, retirement home and volunteering at Joseph Brant Hospital, I realized that our approach to aging and the support in place for seniors is not as available and as detailed as it should be in our community. Seniors and their families are left to find and access their own resources with little help. I've received many questions about where to access specific resources, or the concerns of patients about managing multiple appointments. With all of this in mind, I wanted to be the person/company that people can turn to when they don't know what direction to go in. That goal has led me to start my own compassionate and innovative company dedicated to helping seniors and their families navigate the complexities of health and social systems - Epilogue.
Now a little about my background! With a degree in Health & Society, specializing in Mental Health and Addiction, I offer a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges seniors face as they age. My expertise is further enhanced by certifications in rehabilitation sciences, disability management, thanatology (study of death and dying), business studies, and leadership and communication for the not-for-profit sector.
As previously mentioned, my passion for senior care began with hands-on volunteer experience in hospital settings, where I provided physical exercises and mental/social stimulation to seniors, helping them maintain both physical health and emotional well-being. I later worked in a retirement community, designing and implementing life enrichment programs that support seniors in maintaining their independence and dignity. In addition to my healthcare experience at the hospital, I have worked in a specialized doctor’s office, gaining valuable insights into healthcare operations and patient care coordination.
As a lifelong learner, I am driven by a passion for empowering seniors and their families to make informed decisions about their health and social well-being. Through Epilogue, I brings my unique blend of expertise, experience, and empathy to help seniors navigate the often complex systems, providing them with the support they need to live fulfilling and healthy lives.
When not working, I enjoy reading, traveling, and organizing (not the most exciting hobby, but there is nothing like a well organized calendar), all of which inspire me to continuously improve and grow both personally and professionally. I remain committed to my mission of supporting seniors and helping them achieve the highest quality of life possible.
